Greenspaces

Greenspaces

During a pandemic, we learned to appreciate more green spaces around us, starting from our garden and further, parks, forests, etc. The availability of these spaces gave us more freedom and a sense of belonging, non-isolation. We can see that people living in communities with more park areas and overall green-spaces are better connected and relaxed. Having this advantage of walking in the morning and evening for at least a short walk helps us greatly in keeping physical and mental health.

The recent trend of growing food at home is only raising. From the first point when we realized how important green space is, the next point is providing it in the nearest proximity and learn as much as we can about the plants which will be compatible with this space. To plant certain species of plants in one small area is not an easy task. Simplifying things would be best. Simple growing plants, few types joined together in one bigger pot is the best beginning to a great home-grown little garden.

If you choose to grow edible plants, make it simple again. Cherry tomato doesn’t require a lot of space and can be joined to cucumber a green salad. Yet, the winner is sage, mint r any other spice plant which doesn’t require deep soil (in most cases-fresh water and plenty of suns is enough).

In a matter of a couple of weeks, you could have your little green heaven and enjoy a couple of hours per day surrounded by greenery. It was proved that work on the computer, when surrounded with plants, was more relaxed so why not take a laptop in your green corner and work there?

It takes a couple of things to start your garden. Plan space where plants will have enough sunshine but not be directly under all day. Take a couple of big pots, one deep and another shallow. Place some small rocks on the bottom and cover with a soil mix (preferably for garden plants). If you plan to plant cucumber, soil cover should be deeper and for salat not so much. Add seeds and cover with another layer of soil. Water plants in the morning and evening with more or less water, depending on what your plants need. It seems funny but plants enjoy the attention. So giving them a little water in the morning and evening has led to better results in comparison when watering only once per day or even week with more water. Later you can learn more about garden diversity and pests, even small animals which will be visiting your plants-insects and even birds.

A sense of helping life to grow is a quite special feeling. We can do a lot or at least we can help save stray animals, grow garden and of course, help children in our families grow to be emotional, conscience and practical creatures so they can continue this circle.
