Covid-19 Vaccine

Covid-19 Vaccine ( PART 1 )

The necessity for rapid treatment for Covid-19 rushed major pharmaceutic companies to develop a vaccine in the shortest period of time. These days new vaccines (19 different types) are going through the second and third trial and results are promising. But the fact is, can we really know what are long term effects? For this moment, data show promising outcomes and vaccination will soon begin. Previously described immunity for Covid-19 teach us about the unknown outcome because of the subjectivity factor and difference in the genome. Immunization played a significant part in lab mouses even tough trials present a positive result when it comes to treating animals with the Covid-19 vaccine.

In the search for a better understanding of what this vaccine is and what could it offer here is what we could find: “A COVID‑19 vaccine is a biotechnology product intended to provide acquired immunity against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19).” “Established and new vaccine production technologies are being used for the development of COVID-19 vaccine candidates: whole-inactivated virus, live attenuated virus, protein subunit, replicating and non-replicating viral vectors expressing SARS-CoV-2 proteins as well as DNA and RNA technologies delivering gene sequences that encode SARS-CoV-2 proteins that then are produced by host cells.”(Lurie N, Saville M, Hatchett R, Halton J. Developing Covid-19 Vaccines at Pandemic Speed. N Engl J Med. 2020 May 21;382(21):1969-73.)

To simplify.. Protein subunit is there to support the content, the rest of it is mostly genetic material from partially activated and whole active virus, as well as small RNA sequences specially produced to react with our genetic code which will then be able to make a new set of proteins and fight effectively against the virus. The reason why we receive some of the active and inactive virus forms in the first place is that our organism needs to have a chance to recognize the virus and not react instantly (“cytokine storm”) as it has happened previously. This massive instant reaction of the immune system was fatal in so many previous patients because there was no time and no treatment to stop the reaction and treat endangered organs (lungs, mostly).

A fear of receiving a virus trough the vaccine should stop thereafter accepting this fact. At the same time, there is no guarantee that the vaccine will not cause side-effects but wasn’t it like this with every vaccine we receive? Data from the major pharmaceutical companies stay closed and many countries now urge them to open and share knowledge because all form the same field could benefit. Unfortunately, there is high competence for selling vaccines and this knowledge will probably stay within. What we could learn, is from the established medical and genetic pages, and if possible, we could compere some results and see what is the best option for us. Probably vaccines will be at one point a necessity and we will all have to choose which one to receive in order to protect ourselves and be able to work, travel, live..Until that moment we could regularly check how vaccines develop and take account all reliable data.

Economic perspective pushes us to receive prevention as soon as possible and to continue our path right where we stopped in February/March. After learning so many new ways of operating, working, and not-commuting, maybe a part of the previous journey will change and we could continue to live more quality life, with more cautions and hygiene habits.
